Chickens

We have two flocks at Hard Way Farms. One is our Egg Production Unit, and the other we call our Hatching Unit. Technically speaking, we want BOTH of them to be producing eggs, but the names more reflect the "end user product" of each unit.

Egg Production:
Our egg production birds are a mix of several different breeds. We have Light Brahmas, Black Australorps, Buff Orpingtons, Splash Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, Americuanas, and a single, lonely Salmon Faverolle who's looking for a boyfriend. These birds are where we obtain the eggs that we sell for eating purposes. Most of them produce a brown egg, ranging from a light tan to very dark brown. Our birds are housed in a large, roomy coop off of the ground so that they are not required to live in their own feces. They have 24 hr. access to an outdoor run, feed, and water. We would like to free-range our birds, but can't without sitting in the pasture with a shotgun to keep the hawks and eagles off of them. Since the law discourages such activity, we're forced to keep them in an enclosed run to protect them. We do keep a rooster with them, so if you are partial to fertilized eggs we have what you are looking for. These eggs are for eating purposes only, as we can't be sure which hen laid which egg. They are fertile and should hatch if incubated, but are quite likely a cross breed of some sort or another. We do not handle these eggs with the same care afforded the eggs from our hatching unit. If you are interested in hatching eggs from one of the mentioned breeds, please contact us. We are constantly upgrading and adding to our flock, and we may be able to help you. We are also struggling to keep up with the demand for high quality and affordable eating eggs, so we plan to expand our production flock by at least 25% this year.

Hatching:

Our hatching unit is still quite small, but we're excited about the possibilities. At this time, we have Blue Orpington eggs for sale. The eggs are collected at least twice daily, and are handled as little and as carefully as possible. We will sell and ship these valuable eggs anywhere in the continental US. Our eggs are dated in pencil immediately upon collection, so you will know at a glance that the eggs you receive are fresh and ready to incubate. They are stored at 50F and turned daily until they are shipped. We will be adding more pictures of our breeder birds soon. These are outstanding specimens of a beautiful rare breed.
